About YBR

Founded in 2000, Yellow Breeches Racing (YBR) is the Carlisle Family YMCA's endurance racing team. Our members compete in a variety of disciplines, including adventure racing, cyclocross, duathlon, mountain biking, road cycling, running, swimming, and triathlon. We host several racing events each season and participate in too many races to count!  To see our organizational structure Click Here.

YBR is a member of the International Mountain Biking Association, the Keystone Mountain Biking Association, Mountain Bikers of Michaux, the Pennsylvania Adopt-A-Highway program, the Pennsylvania Cycling Association, Sprockids , USA Cycling , USA Triathlon, and US Masters Swimming.

YBR membership is open to all - fast or slow, young or old, novice or experienced! We are especially interested in developing under-21 athletes.

We expect our racers to compete in at least 3 races per year and volunteer at least 1 YBR-sponsored race.

YBR Training Opportunities

Looking for someone or a group to train with?

Interested in starting a group training session?

One of the benefits of joining YBR are the training opportunities.  If you are looking for a training buddy or group than look no further.  Here are some good group training activities that may interest you:

Adventure Racing: Sam Mummert is YBR's adventure racing guru.  Contact him about one of his "unique" training sessions at sammy_m68@yahoo.com.
Conditioning/Training: The Carlisle Family YMCA has wonderful facilities for strength, aerobic, and flexibility training.  In addition, YBR Members of the Y teach and are involved in Spinning, Masters Swimming, and Pilates.  You must check it out!  Josh Beck, Ray Peske, and John Thompson and are YBR Members who also do private coaching. To reach the Carlisle YMCA call 717-243-2525 or click here to see the Y's website.
Cyclocross: When you look up the word cyclocross in the dictionary Mark Laser's picture is right next to it.  In the Fall (September - December) you can find Mark and others 'Cross training over at the Carlisle Fairgrounds (note it's different from last year) every Wednesday at 5:30pm.  All levels of experience are welcome!  Contact Mark for details at woodcrest21@gmail.com!

Mountain Biking:

There's ALWAYS a ride in the works; just shoot an e-mail to Robby McElfresh, YBR's MTB Coordinator, about where and when you want to ride and hit the trails!  Mmmmm...Michaux.  Look for more middle and high school racing action in the Spring of 2006, espeically be on the watch out for those kids that come for those newly formed Y-Riders races, they're going to be fast!  For Robby's email go to mtnbikeguy2607@gmail.com

Road Biking/Racing:

Harrisburg Bike Club rides from the MJ Mall are a great way to get some group riding practice and to meet other cyclists. Rides leave at 6:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays from April through September.

In addition to the above...YBR hosts the Ironmasters Mansion 10-mile Time Trial Series on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays (note that's different from last year too) of the month; first rider off at 5:30 pm. The Twirly Top restaurant is located on Rt. 34 just south of Mt. Holly Springs . The series is FREE and is a great way to build fitness, test gear and meet other YBR cyclists. Note: The IMTT starts and ends at the Iron Masters Mansion at Pine Grove Furnace.

You can get all the low down on the IMTT by going to http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/ironmastersmansiontt/

Triathlon/Duathlon:

YBR Triathletes and Duathletes are a diverse group of racers who like to train hard and have fun too.  We encourage all ability levels from newbie to elite racers to come out and race.  For the 2006 Season we're looking for people to lead weekly rides, swim, or running sessions to get ready for some great Triathlons and Duathlons!  For more details contact either Andy Grove, argrove@hotmail.com or John Hartpence at hartpenj@dickinson.edu

Yoga:

Samantha Marks teaches a Yoga class at the Carlisle YMCA. Yoga is a great way to build your core strength and flexibility for cycling. It's also really fun to run around in those tight clothes, I mean that is why we're cyclists isn't it? Contact Sam at yneziam@hotmail.com.

Swimming:

You can meet many of our YBR Triathletes and Duathletes at the Masters Swim Program that is offered both at the the Carlisle and West Shore YMCA. For more details call 717-243-2525 for the Carlisle Y or 717-975-1897 for the West Shore Y.
